Training-cum-awareness camp on Lavender, Marigold cultivation organised

KISHTWAR, Mar 15: Government Degree College (GDC) Kishtwar and the Department of Floriculture Kishtwar today organised a comprehensive training cum awareness camp for students focusing on the cultivation of lavender and marigold crops. The camp aimed to equip students with practical knowledge and skills pertaining to the cultivation and management of lavender and marigold crops. These aromatic plants hold significant economic potential and play a crucial role in the floriculture industry. Conducted by experts from the Department of Floriculture, the training session covered various aspects of lavender and marigold cultivation, including soil preparation, planting techniques, irrigation methods, pest and disease management, harvesting practices, and post-harvest handling. Through interactive sessions, demonstrations, and hands-on activities, students were provided with valuable insights into the best practices for cultivating and maintaining lavender and marigold crops. The camp also emphasized the importance of sustainable and organic farming practices to enhance yield and quality while minimizing environmental impact.
Furthermore, the awareness component of the camp focused on highlighting the economic potential of lavender and marigold cultivation, both at the individual and community levels. Students were briefed on market opportunities, value addition techniques, and government schemes available to support floriculture ventures.
The collaborative effort between GDC Kishtwar and the Department of Floriculture reflects a proactive approach towards promoting skill development and entrepreneurship among students, aligning with the government’s initiatives to boost the agriculture and allied sectors.
