| JK Committee of CITU call on Railway Minister | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 27- The Jammu and Kashmir state committee of Centre of Indian Trade Unions led by Basudeb Acharia, MP and Chairman standing committee for Railways, along with Javid Zagar working president, Om Prakash general secretary and Sham Prasad Kesar, called on Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav at the union capital and discussed various issues including problems of workers engaged in Railway project from Katra to Sangaldan segment of Jammu and Kashmir State. The issues discussed included restarting the construction of railway project from Katra to Qazigund on the basis of previous survey, re-engagement and payment of due wages to the retrenched workers, compensation to the land owners whose land has been acquired for the project, providing of permanent jobs in railways to the land ousters and proper implementation of the labour laws and protecting the rights of the workers in various central projects. According to the handout, the Railway Minister, is reported to have assured the delegation that immediate steps would be initiated to resolve the issues and the work on this vital project will restart at the earliest.
