National College of Education celebrates World Consumer Rights Day

JAMMU, Mar 18: National College of Education Purkhoo Camp celebrated World Consumer Rights Day in college premises. This day is celebrated on 15th March every year to raise awareness about consumer rights and need. This day is an opportunity to celebrate the power of consumer and demand that their rights are respected and protected. Special Guest for this occasion Mr. Brij Mohan Sangotra (Sr. Adv.) is mainly practising before High Court of Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh and various tribunal courts. He is also empanelled as mediator for Meditation cell of the President District Consumer Dispute redressal commission Jammu on 23/08/2023. Ram Charan (Adv.) is also practising before high court of Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh and various tribunal courts of Jammu and Kashmir. The bouquet was presented by principal Dr. Manju Dwivedi and Dean Administration Er. Ajay Singh Jamwal. The New consumer protection act was passed by parliament in 2019. It came into force in July 2020 and replaced the consumer protection act 1986. The speech was delivered by Sr. Adv. Brij Mohan Sangotra. He spoke about the various rights of the consumer and different function of the consumer protection act of 2019. It includes (i) Inquiring into violation of consumer rights, investigating and launching prosecution at the appropriate forum.(ii) Passing orders to recalls goods or withdraw services that are hazardous, reimbursement of the price paid and discontinuation of the unfair trade practicing as defined in the bill. (iii) Imposing penalties (iv) Issuing safety notices to consumer against unsafe goods and services. Welcomed addressed by Neetu Sharma and vote of thanks was given by Yashumati Jamwal. Other members present on the occasion were Meenakshi Sharma, Aneesha Jamwal, Arti Verma, Kusum Lata Sharma, Rajni Gupta, Abhinav Sharma, Vikas Shan, Aditi Sharma.
