| Efforts on for traffic decongestion in Srinagar: Taj | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, FEBRUARY 27 – Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Mr. Taj Mohi-ud-Din today said that Government was conscious about the heavy congestion of traffic on Srinagar roads and in this backdrop, a comprehensive project for the construction of flyovers and expressways at strategic spots in the summer capital is under active consideration of the Government. He said the projects of mega city schemes stand submitted to the Central Government for required funding. The Minister said this on behalf of Minister for R&B in the Legislative Council today. Mr. Taj said the construction of expressways, bridges and widening of roads from J&K Bank, Dalgate to Dharamdas Temple, on Dalgate-Khanyar Road, besides widening of Boulevard Road at an estimated cost of Rs 60.84 crore have been included in the schemes for funding. He said in addition to construction of flyover and expressway corridor from Jehangir Chowk to Rambagh Bridge at a cost of Rs. 130 crores and construction of expressway corridor from Budshah Chowk to Dalgate Crossing (J&K Bank) at a cost of Rs. 120 crore and Srinagar Bypass from Pampore via Lasjan and Mehjoor Nagar at a cost of Rs. 300 crores also stands submitted for funding. He assured that as soon as the necessary funds become available, works on these mega projects would be taken up immediately. The Minister said that besides this, a subway express tunnel at Rustam Ghar is also under active consideration of the Government. The Minister was replying to a question of Mr. M. Y. Taing which was followed by supplementaries by Mr. P. Namgyal in the House today.
