| KVIC, SPEED organize workshop on PMEGP | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, FEBRUARY 27 – In order to make interested entrepreneurs aware about Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programe (PMEGP), a day-long State-level workshop was organized by Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), at TRC, here today. The workshop is being held in association with Society for People’s Education, Environment, Employment and Development (SPEED). Regional Director, RBI, Mr. O.P. Agarwal was the chief guest at the inaugural, which was also attended by Director, Rural Development, Mr. J. L. Bhagat, Director, KVIC, Mr. B. R. Chouhan, Director of MSME, Mr. S. K. Sahu, vice president of J&K Bank, Mr. Madan Gupta and President, SPEED, Mr. A. Qureshi. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Chouhan highlighted the objectives of PMEGP and said the scheme will generate employment opportunities in rural as well as urban areas of the country through setting up of new self-employment, ventures. He said that the units and will bring together widely-dispersed traditional artisans and unemployed youth, adding that it will also provide continuous and sustainable employment to a large section of jobless youth in the country. He added that the setting up self-employment ventures will arrest migration of rural youth to urban areas. The scheme will be implemented through the State Directorates of KVIC and KVIB and DICs in rural areas. It was also informed that aptitude, interest, skill and entrepreneurship and market availability will make the proposed projects a success. Chief Guest, Mr. O.P. Agarwal stressed the need for submitting viable and sustained project reports, enabling financial institutions to extend financial assistance to intending unit-holders. He also stressed the need for avoiding collateral and marginal loans as the banks can provide up to Rs. 50 lakh assistance at a time. A large number of potential entrepreneurs, unemployed educated youth and members of NGOs participated in the workshop.
