| Local cement plants being given priority: Slathia | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, FEBRUARY 27 – Minister for Industries and Commerce, Labour and Employment, Mr. S. S. Slathia has said that the additional unit of J&K Cements, for which land has been acquired through the Revenue Department, is still under trial run and there is no question of fertile land turning barren due to the recent expansion of the Plant. He said that compensation for the said land placed at the disposal of Deputy Commissioner, Pulwama has already been disbursed to the people. The Minister was replying to a question raised by Member Mr. Mir Zahoor Ahmad in Legislative Assembly today. He said the present staff is sufficient to meet the requirements of the additional plant. However, specialists, if required, will be engaged from among the locals, if they are found to be qualified and eligible. The locals have been given preference in respect of employment in the existing Plant, he said. Replying to the supplementaries raised by MLAs, Mr. Sartaj Madni, Mr. Ashwani Sharma, Mr. Harshdev Singh, Mr. Yashpal Kundal, Mr. Balwant Singh Mankotia and Mr. G. M. Saroori, Mr. Slathia said that pollution control devices worth Rs. 6.50 crore have been installed at JK Cements Plant at Khrew to check dust pollution in the area. He also said that 633 locals have been provided employment in the said Cement Plant. The Minister assured the House that the matter regarding setting up of pesticides unit at Batal Ballian, Udhampur and pollution by the said unit would be investigated in detail.
