Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 22: In a collaborative effort to raise awareness about the critical importance of freshwater resources, ECO-Club "Srishti" of Government Degree College Sidhra partnered with the Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA) Jammu Chapter to commemorate World Water Day 2024. The event, held on March 22nd, 2024, shed light on this year's theme, "Water for Peace", emphasizing the vital role of water in fostering harmony and sustainable development. The distinguished guests of the event included Prof. Kuldeep Krishan Sharma, Vice Chancellor of Himalayan University, Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, and Dr. Ranvijay Singh, Dean of Students Welfare at Cluster University of Jammu. Dr. Anshu Gupta, the convener of the ECO club, initiated the program with a warm welcome address, setting the tone for the day's discussions. Dr. G. S Rakwal, the Principal of the college, reiterated the significance of World Water Day, emphasizing the urgent need for judicious water resource management to ensure sustainability for future generations. Prof. Kuldeep Krishan Sharma delivered an enlightening talk, delving into the rich Indian Knowledge System and the profound importance of water as highlighted in Vedic literature. He emphasized the alarming depletion of natural water bodies, groundwater, and the pollution of surface water, urging students to adopt practices for water conservation to avert potential conflicts and ensure prosperity and peace. Dr. Ranvijay Singh underscored the pivotal role of the youth in water conservation efforts, stressing the power of collective action in making a significant impact. He encouraged students to actively engage in spreading awareness among the wider community. Dr. Anshu Gupta emphasized the ripple effect of cooperation on water issues, highlighting its potential to foster harmony, prosperity, and resilience in the face of shared challenges. The event, meticulously organized under the guidance of Principal Dr. G. S Rakwal, was steered by Dr. Anshu Gupta, with support from faculty members including Prof. Deepa Kak from the Department of Education and Dr. Anu Sharma from the Department of Botany. The program concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Prof. Shonima Malhotra, an Assistant Professor of Sociology, expressing gratitude to all participants and organizers for their contributions to the success of the event.
