Early Times Report

Nowshera, Mar 22: In a concerted effort to commemorate World Forestry Day 2024, the Nowshera Forest Division orchestrated a series of impactful initiatives aimed at promoting innovation and conservation in forest management. Led by Mrs. Shweta Deonia, Divisional Forest Officer of Nowshera, and under the guidance of Sandeep Kumar, Conservator of Forests West Circle Rajouri, the division celebrated the global event with a fervent commitment to enhancing forest sustainability.
At the heart of the commemoration were strategic plantation drives organized at the forest block level. Block Forest Officers convened meetings with local participants to emphasize the significance of World Forestry Day, rallying communities around the theme of “Forests and Innovation: New Solutions for a Better World.” These drives were aimed at bolstering forest cover and biodiversity while engaging the public in conservation efforts.
Dr. Rakesh Verma, Range Officer of Sunderbani, delivered insightful addresses during these gatherings, shedding light on the importance of conserving medicinal and aromatic plants both in-situ and ex-situ. His emphasis on protection methods using locally available materials resonated with attendees, underscoring the vital role communities play in safeguarding forest resources.
Anil Bhagat, Range Officer of Nowshera, and Sudesh Kumar, Range Officer of Lamberi, spearheaded plantation activities and fire break creation with active community participation.
These endeavors not only contributed to forest resilience but also fostered a sense of ownership among local residents, aligning with the ethos of community-based conservation.
Shweta Deonia showcased innovative approaches to combat forest fires and promote sustainable forest management. By harnessing locally available materials, she demonstrated how forest-dependent communities could create livelihood opportunities while safeguarding forest ecosystems—a testament to the intersection of innovation and conservation. Through these concerted efforts, the Nowshera Forest Division reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable forestry practices. By championing innovation and community engagement, the division aims to pave the way for a greener, more resilient future for forests and the communities that depend on them.
