JAMMU, Mar 23: Ajay Kumar Sadhotra, National Conference Additional General Secretary and former minister, reiterated the significance of secularism as a fundamental principle for fostering national integration, particularly in a diverse and pluralistic nation like India. He emphasized the pivotal role of inclusivity in nurturing harmony and unity among individuals from various religious and cultural backgrounds.
Speaking at the Iftar Party hosted by Suriya Begum DDC Member in Badori-Smailpur, Samba district, Sadhotra highlighted secularism as a guiding principle that ensures equal treatment for every individual, irrespective of their religious affiliation or ethnicity. He underscored the commitment of the National Conference to promoting mutual respect and understanding among different religious communities, fostering a culture of inclusivity and tolerance within society.
Reflecting on the rich pluralistic ethos of Jammu and Kashmir, Sadhotra commended the region's historical resilience against forces seeking to sow communal discord. He emphasized the role of the land of Sufis and saints as a unifier, maintaining traditions of amity and brotherhood even during challenging times. Sadhotra expressed confidence in the people's ability to prioritize harmonious growth and urged youth to play a pivotal role in advancing the agenda of inclusivity.
While cautioning against divisive elements, Sadhotra affirmed the commitment of the National Conference to thwarting any attempts to divide society. He criticized the BJP for promoting a divisive agenda and called upon the people to reject such divisive tactics, urging them to hold the BJP accountable for its failures and detrimental policies.
On the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan, Sadhotra extended greetings to the people and prayed for peace and harmony in Jammu and Kashmir.
The event witnessed the presence of several prominent personalities, including former minister Ram Paul, Zonal President Jammu (Central), Qazi Jalal Din, Ex-MLA, and various other community leaders and representatives.
Sadhotra's remarks underscore the enduring importance of secularism in promoting unity and diversity within society, emphasizing the need for inclusive governance and collective efforts to uphold the country's secular fabric.
