KVK Spearheads Scientific Oilseeds Cultivation to Boost Farmer Income

Reasi, Mar 24: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi, operating under the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J), is leading the charge in promoting scientific cultivation practices for oilseeds in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir. Under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. B.N. Tripathi and the expert guidance of Director Extension Prof. Amrish Vaid of SKUAST-J, KVK Reasi is actively engaged in educating and assisting farmers to enhance their oilseeds production.
According to Dr. Banarsi Lal, Senior Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi, there exists immense potential for oilseeds cultivation in the district, presenting an opportunity for farmers to boost their income and generate employment. He emphasized the importance of adopting innovative practices in oilseeds cultivation to maximize yields and profitability. KVK, Reasi is playing a pivotal role in disseminating knowledge on scientific cultivation methods, including the use of quality seeds, Integrated Nutrient Management, and Integrated Pest Management techniques tailored for oilseeds crops.
Dr. Banarsi Lal highlighted the pivotal role of oilseeds in augmenting farmer income and improving nutritional levels within the community. He underscored the significance of timely plant protection measures to optimize yields and achieve favorable farm outcomes.
The emphasis is on promoting improved varieties of oilseeds and implementing effective pest management strategies to ensure sustainable agricultural practices.
Furthermore, KVK, Reasi is actively promoting value addition initiatives and fostering micro-enterprises in rural areas centered around oilseeds. The establishment of Cluster Front Line Demonstrations (CFLDs) across various locations in Reasi district serves as a platform to showcase advanced technologies and practices to farmers. The response from farmers towards adopting modern techniques in oilseeds cultivation has been encouraging, indicating a positive shift towards sustainable agriculture practices.
