| Taing withdraws resolution after assurance from Govt | | |

JAMMU, FEB 28: Minister for Tourism Nawang Rigzin Jora while replying to a resolution moved by MY Taing in the Legislative Council today, informed the House that the government is committed to provide healthcare facilities related to maternal and child health and is fully conscious of the need for strengthening the gynecological branches of district hospitals. He said that there has already been improvement in institutional deliveries conducted both in tertiary and secondary care hospitals in the State. He said that each district hospital of the State has been provided Rs 20 lakh to upgrade the facilities, which include provision for equipments and infrastructure. He said that under National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) Rs 5 lakh are also being provided to each district hospital as Corpus Fund per year adding that blood banks have also been provided in the district hospitals. The Minister said that an additional central assistance was also provided to the tune of Rs 60 crore under the Prime Minister Reconstruction Programme for the construction and up-gradation of hospital buildings in districts. He said that government is also keen to provide additional staff in all district hospitals and other health institutions. A proposal for creation of 1564 posts including specialists in gynecology and pediatrics is also under the active consideration of the government. With these measures it is expected that the gynae services in the districts will improve.
Referring to Lal Ded Hospital Srinagar, he said that Rs 15.87 crore has been earmarked for the construction of 200 bedded additional ward block to reduce the pressure on the hospital. Moreover, he said project proposals for construction of two new 400 bedded maternity hospitals one each at Srinagar and Jammu have been formulated and submitted to Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India for formal approval and funding. The Member after getting adequate assurances from the government withdrew the resolution. Replying to another resolution moved by Mr.Lal Mohammad Sabir, Mr.Jora said that the 6 kms Balnai road has been sanctioned under RIDF XIV by the NABARD during 2008 at an estimated cost of Rs 499.75 lakhs for which Rs 21.42 lakh has been incurred so far. He said that the work which is under execution will be completed within a stipulated time and the road stretch will become motorable. After the assurance the member also withdrew the resolution. However, the discussion on the private resolution of Mr. A.G. Vakil remained inconclusive and the House was adjourned.
