Natrang’s ‘Rehearsal’: A satirical take on amateurism in theatre production
3/24/2024 11:58:07 PM

Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 24: In its weekly Theatre Series, Sunday Theatre, Natrang presented ‘Rehearsal’, a thought-provoking play written by Lakshmi Kant Vaishnav and directed by Neeraj Kant, at the Natrang Studio Theatre in Kachi Chawni. The play delves into the comical yet insightful portrayal of individuals attempting to engage in activities without adequate knowledge or qualifications.
‘Rehearsal’ unfolds within the setting of a theatre rehearsal, focusing on an all-female cast dubbed as the “Kitty-mates.” Despite their aspirations to deliver a stellar performance, the women’s approach is marred by immaturity and a lack of essential qualities required for professional theatre production.
The play cleverly exposes the absence of discipline, punctuality, team spirit, and self-motivation among the cast, replacing these vital traits with jealousy, gossip, lack of coordination, and egotism. The rehearsal devolves into chaos as each member candidly reveals their innermost thoughts, with the director struggling to maintain control due to her own limitations. As the narrative unfolds, it becomes evident that the absence of compassion and professionalism leads to discord among the cast. Some members, buoyed by their spouses’ social status, demand preferential treatment, further exacerbating tensions within the group.
The performances of Natrang artists, including Kananpreet Kaur, Vansh Pandotra, Priya Kashyap, Payal Khanna, Vandana Thakur, Sana Devi, Mehak Chib, and Palshin Dutta, brought the characters to life, effectively capturing the essence of the play. Neeraj Kant’s skillful manipulation of lighting added depth to the production, while Kushal Bhat’s presentations and Mohd. Yaseen’s coordination ensured a seamless execution of the show.
Ultimately, ‘Rehearsal’ serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of discipline and commitment in the pursuit of meaningful artistic endeavors. Through its satirical lens, the play imparts a valuable lesson on the necessity of professionalism and cooperation in the creation of impactful works of art.
