JAMMU, FEB 28: In replying to a Calling Attention Notice by Mr. P. Namgyal, Minister for Tourism and Cultural, Mr. Nawang Rigzin Jora said “ on 14.2.2009, a group of un-employed youth while protesting against the district administration regarding alleged favoritism and unfair selection of candidates in recently held recruitment to Class-IV post in various government departments marched from Pologround, Leh towards employment exchange, Leh and pelted stones over Police party deployed at Employment Exchange resulting in damage to the building of Employment Exchange, Leh. The police exercised maximum restraint and the protestors were pacified without using any force by the police on the said day”. “On 15.2.2009, protestors again assembled at Polo ground, Leh and marched towards Employment Exchange, Leh raising slogans against District Administration and some miscreants were leading the protestors and provoking them. On reaching main market in Leh town, the protestors tried to disturb the traffic movement and started pelting stones on police party in which SHO police station, Leh and one lady constable was injured. The police arrested some miscreants from amongst the protestors indulging in violence on spot and remaining protestors were pacified by using minimum force. During the whole episode not even a single tear/smoke shell was used by the police and the protestors were made to disperse peacefully and tactfully”, he maintained. The Minister said, “FIR No. 12/2009 under section 147, 149, 336, 427, 511 of RPC stands registered in police station Leh and investigation is going on in the cases. There was no excesses committed by the police and minimum force was used while pacifying the protestors and there is no complaint about police excess”.
