JAMMU, FEBRUARY 28 – The Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Mr. Taj Mohi-ud-Din, on behalf of the Minister for R&B, today informed the House that the Bani-Bhaderwah road would be upgraded to provide alternate route to Doda and Kishtwar districts in view of the recent incident of caving in of the road at Asser on NH-1B. The matter has already been taken up with the Centre, he added
Replying to a question raised by Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta, the Minister said out of 173 Km Basholi-Bhaderwah road length, 86 km from Basholi to Bani has already been handed over to BRO in 1995. He said double laning of the road under strategic requirement is in progress. He said that at present 20 Km of the road have been completed in all respects and work from 20Km onwards upto 50 Km is in progress. He said that the execution of this road project would be completed upto 2015 and so far Rs. 74.16 crore has been incurred on its execution.
The Minister also said that the Bhaderwah-Chamba road project has been sanctioned under Inter-State Connectivity programme at a cost of Rs. 73.33 crores and pre-qualification tenders have been invited. He said that the total length of road is 145 Km and the road upto 22Km has been opened to traffic. He said that this road was motorable for light vehicles upto 1986, adding that due to the militancy the road has been abandoned.
The Minister also informed the House that Padder-Pangi road in Kishtwar district is under BRO and added that it is single-lane fair weather road for light vehicles only. He said the consultancy services for construction of permanent bridge over Ravi has been completed by BRO and the proposal is likely to be finalized during 2009-10. He said that the work of approach road is in progress.
