JAMMU, Mar 27: Dr. Syed Darakhshan Andrabi, the Chairperson of the Jammu & Kashmir Waqf Board, embarked on a significant visit to the revered Pather Masjid Complex in the heart of Srinagar's old city. This historic site, owned by the Waqf Board and under the purview of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) as a protected monument, received the attention of Dr. Andrabi as she became the first head of the Board to assess its condition and restoration needs.
Upon her arrival, Dr. Andrabi was warmly greeted by the local community, underscoring the significance of her visit. Engaging with representatives of the local society, she discussed the requirements for enhancing facilities for worshippers and outlined essential restoration measures to preserve the sanctity of the site. Dr. Andrabi wasted no time in issuing directives to the Waqf Board authorities, mandating the installation of new, dignified matting across the entire prayer area ahead of the upcoming Eid festival. This proactive step aims to ensure a comfortable and conducive environment for worshippers during their religious observances.
Moreover, Dr. Andrabi expressed her commitment to collaborating with the ASI to pursue the comprehensive restoration of the historic Pather Masjid. Emphasizing the site's continued significance as a living prayer center, she commended the local community for their diligent upkeep of the monument, maintaining its cleanliness and sanctity.
"We will promptly engage with the ASI to present our proposal for the restoration of this cherished Masjid," remarked Dr. Darakhshan Andrabi, underscoring the importance of preserving cultural heritage for future generations.
Accompanied by officials from the Waqf Board and representatives from relevant government departments, Dr. Andrabi's visit signifies a concerted effort to safeguard and revitalize this iconic landmark in Srinagar's cultural tapestry. As restoration efforts gain momentum, the Pather Masjid stands poised to reclaim its historical splendor and spiritual significance in the heart of the city.
