MLA’s statement can’t lower Party’s credibility: Mehbooba
2/28/2009 11:56:57 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 28: A day after Chief Minister Omar Abdullah proved the Opposition assertions wrong in assembly, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday said that it was the party’s exemplary courage that forced the government to depute its Minister to Bandipora to know the facts. She said that the statement by one of the party leaders did not lower the party’s credibility.
Mehbooba Mufti, while speaking to media persons on the side lines of a party function ruled out the allegation leveled by the ruling National Conference that in view of the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, the party (PDP) is politicizing the situation in Kashmir.
Mehbooba said that the party having regards for the highest turnover of voters during the elections, is performing its role both in and outside the assembly and if the ruling party calls it politicization it is poorly mistaken. In case the government does not act as per the aspirations of the people it will lose its credibility.
“It (NC) will be send where it should be”, said Mehbooba Mufti, in case government does not act as per the aspirations of the people of the state that demand revocation of AFSPA and reduction of armed forces in the state.
Mehbooba said that the time has come that the AFSPA be repealed in the state. Mehbooba Mufti said that since it is time for revocation of AFSPA and as agreed by the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah himself on floor of the house, he has to take up the issue and in case he fails to do so, the party will act to send it back.
She said that since Prime Minister of India the highest power in the country has himself acknowledged the removal of AFSPA in the working group, it should not be a problem for the Chief Minister.
