CUJ launches women's community journalism training

JAMMU, Mar 29: In a proactive move towards fostering women's empowerment and professional development, the Central University of Jammu (CUJ) has initiated a Short-Term Upskilling Program on Community Journalism specifically tailored for women. Conducted in collaboration with Government Degree College Paloura (GDC), Jammu, this pioneering endeavor aims to equip female candidates with essential journalistic skills and empower them to become catalysts for change within their communities.
The inauguration ceremony, graced by esteemed dignitaries including Prof. Sanjeev Jain, Vice Chancellor of CUJ, and Prof. Ashu Vashist, Principal of GDC Paloura, emphasized the critical role of education and skill development in advancing gender equality and socio-economic progress. Prof. Jaya Bhasin, Dean of CUJ's School of Business Studies, underscored the significance of women's empowerment in rural areas and highlighted the program's alignment with governmental agendas focused on education and skill enhancement for women.
Dr. Neelika Arora, Associate Professor at CUJ, emphasized the importance of adaptability and continuous learning in today's rapidly evolving professional landscape. She stressed the transformative potential of community journalism in addressing local challenges and amplifying women's voices. Dr. Shahid Mushtaq, Assistant Professor, outlined CUJ's commitment to nurturing entrepreneurship and meaningful engagement, aiming to empower women as creators of opportunities rather than mere job seekers.
The program, part of CUJ's broader vision for a skilled and empowered India by 2047, received enthusiastic participation from attendees. Komal S., appointed as the trainer for the upskilling program, illuminated the path ahead for aspiring community journalists, setting the stage for an enriching learning journey.
The event witnessed the presence of heads of departments and faculty members from GDC Paloura, reflecting widespread support and collaboration for this empowering initiative. The seamless coordination of the program by Dr. Neelika Arora and Dr. Shahid Mushtaq, under the mentorship of Prof. Jaya Bhasin and Prof. Ashu Vashist, further underscored the commitment of CUJ and GDC Paloura towards women's empowerment and skill development.
Expressing gratitude to all contributors and supporters, Prof. Pooja Sharma proposed a formal vote of thanks, acknowledging the collective effort in realizing this impactful endeavor. With the launch of this upskilling program, CUJ and GDC Paloura have taken a significant step towards fostering inclusive growth and empowering women as agents of positive change in society.
