Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 3- Prof. Bhim Singh, Chairman of JKNPP in a protest letter to the Chief Election Commission of India has accused Election Commission of being biased against the electorates of Jammu and Kashmir in general and Jammu region in particular which he said is obvious from the proposed election schedule to six seats of Lok Sabha in five phases in J&K. Prof.
Bhim Singh in his letter stated that in several states in the country like Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Orissa, Chhatisgarh, Jharkhand elections to the Lok Sabha are being held in two phases only whereas in Jammu and Kashmir where situation is quite conducive to hold Lok Sabha polls is being discriminated for no reason and no justification or rationalization.
Prof. Singh said in his letter further that, "The schedule for Jammu region comprising Jammu and Udhampur districts is against the principles announced by the Commission in para 4 of its press note no.ECI/PN/13/2009 dated March 2, 2009. The harvesting period in this region falls between April 5 and April 25 whereas the entire electioneering period falls in that period. The festival of Baishakhi starts from 12th and ends on 14th April, 2009 in entire Jammu region. Ambedkar Jayanti also falls on 14th April, 2009 which is the last day of campaigning in Jammu-Poonch Constituency. The constituencies of Jammu-Poonch and Udhampur shall be engaged in celebrations on these days in large scale. The Commission has ignored the feelings of the people and also the harvesting season", the letter adds.
Panthers Chief urged the Election Commission to reconsider the proposed schedule in the interest of parliamentary democracy and for upholding the credibility of the Commission itself so that free and fair polls are ensured and the ruling parties do not make hey taking advantage of the situation.
Prof. Singh announced that Delhi Pradesh Panthers Party shall stage a dharna and protest in front of Election Commission Office in support of their demand seeking justice from the Commission.
