| Workshop on rural development get underway | | | Early Times Reporter JAMMU MARCH 03- The women constitute an important human resource component in creating awareness and implementing various welfare schemes meant for the betterment of people living in far-flung areas of the State.
This was stated by the Minister for Rural Development, Mr. Ali Mohammad Sagar while speaking at a 5-days workshop/orientation course organizing by the Department of Rural Development for Mukhiya Sawikas, Gram Sawikas, Lady Multipurpose Workers, Lady Village Level Workers and APOs.
Underscoring the need of creating awareness among the rural masses about various schemes, the Minister said the role of these women functionaries is important as they can easily communicate the viability and necessity of the schemes to the rural poor and they can easily avail maximum benefits of the programme.
“We should work with missionary zeal so that the problems of people living in rural areas get alleviated and Government would provide every sought of assistance to the various field functionaries. We should also synergize our efforts so that the programmes being implementing become result-oriented and time-bound”, he maintained.
While complimenting the department for holding workshops, the Minister said it is important to make field functionaries aware about the policies of the Government and also to clear doubts and reservations if any regarding the same so that a clear message percolates down to the every individual field worker and they can also propose certain new ideas for effective implementation of different schemes.
During the workshop, the services of various resource persons shall be hired to make it result oriented. The main thrust shall be on the following topics, SGSY, its implementation, problems and their solutions, Selection of viable activities for Self-Help Groups, Empowerment of Women, Role of Voluntary Organisations in empowerment of women particularly women of rural areas, Role of women in Panchayats, Mushroom cultivation, a successful activity for Self-Help Groups, Rights of women, Health, Hygiene, balanced diet, nutrition education/NRHM/JSY, Rural Sanitation and role of women, Wage Employment Programmes for women, Role of Banks in implementation of SGSY, NREGA, its implementations/impact and communication skills.
