New posts being created to end unemployment: Govt

JAMMU, March 03 – Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control Mr.Taj Mohi-ud-Din on behalf of Chief Minister today rmed the Legislative Council that government has taken various effective steps to contain the problem of unemployment in the State. For the purpose, all out efforts are being made to create more productive employment opportunities in the government as well as in the corporate sectors, he added.

The Minister was replying to the questions by Mr. Abdul Gani Vakil and Mr. Ali Mohammad Bhat in the House.

Elaborating over the issue, the Minister said that the selection process in respect of posts already referred to the J&K Public Service Commission and J&K Service Selection Board have been expedited on fast-track basis. He said remaining unfilled posts have been identified and referred to the designated recruitment agencies. New posts are also being created in the government sector to meet the emerging requirements of departments, he added.

Mr. Taj said that a conducive atmosphere in the State is sought to be created for attracting private investment in the rmation Technology, Industries and Tourism sectors. For the purpose, a serious dialogue with the corporate sector has been initiated at the highest level. This has started yielding rich dividends, the Minister added.

The Minister said that in addition to this various Central and State sector self-employment schemes are being implemented effectively to encourage young entrepreneurs to establish their own units. He said that one polytechnic college is being established in each district of the State and existing ITIs are also being strengthened to impart necessary technical skills to the youth in industry and market oriented trades for making them eligible for private sector employment. He said new Skill Development Institute SDI has been proposed to be established for imparting intensive skills to school drop outs and unemployed youth.

The Minister while replying to supplementaries from Mr.R.S. Chib, Mr. Mohammad Sharief Niaz and Mr. Mohammad Rashid Qureshi rmed the House that a proposal for giving stipend to unemployed youth is under the active consideration of the government. He said in addition to it the cumbersome selection process is also being streamlined to fill up the vacant posts in various departments expeditiously. He said departmental recruitment boards would be created for speedy selection of class IV posts in the departments.

Referring to the strengthening of private sector, where a lot of educated youth could be absorbed, he said that augmenting and upgrading of power potential for the purpose is imperative and steps are being taken to strengthen this sector, so that the sector could flourish and provide employment avenues to the youth.
