4/1/2024 10:20:33 PM

Early Times Report
UDHAMPUR, Apr 1: In a proactive initiative to promote civic engagement and electoral participation, the National Cadet Corps (NCC) and National Service Scheme (NSS) units of Government Degree College (GDC), Udhampur, joined hands with the team of the District Election Officer, Udhampur, to organize a comprehensive voter awareness campaign under the ambit of the Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme.
Under the dynamic patronage of Principal Prof. (Dr.) Romesh Kumar Gupta, the campaign centered around the theme 'Right of Casting Vote for the 1st Time Voters' aimed to instill a sense of responsibility and empowerment among the youth towards exercising their franchise.
The event commenced with a formal welcome address delivered by Dr. Revika Arora, the program coordinator, who underscored the pivotal role of first-time voters in shaping the democratic process. Baljeet Singh, an NSS volunteer, emphasized the significance of the first vote with the resonant slogan "Mera Pehla Vote Desh Ke Naam", elucidating that voting transcends mere right, embodying a fundamental duty towards nation-building.
Principal Prof. (Dr.) Romesh Kumar Gupta elucidated the essence of voting by elucidating three fundamental reasons: the hard-fought right achieved by previous generations, the representation of individual beliefs and issues in government, and the consequential impact of every single vote on election outcomes.
A highlight of the event was the recording of a promotional song by the District Election Officer's team, encapsulating the essence of the campaign and aiming to sensitize young minds about their pivotal role in the electoral process.
Distinguished faculty members including Dr. Babu Lal Thakur, Dr. Gurpreet Kour (NSS PO), Dr. Sanjeet Singh (NSS PO), Prof. Vijay Kumar (NCC Officer), Dr. Jasmeet Kour, Prof. Rajesh Singh Manhas, Dr. Anil Kumar Thapa, Dr. Sanjay Singh and Shashi Sharma graced the occasion with their presence and shared their insights.
