Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Apr 1: Police in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla District said on Monday that it has registered 58 cases against drug peddlers this year.
Police said 91 drug peddlers were also arrested during the first three months of the year.
"Police have also registered 58 cases under the NDPS Act and arrested 91 drug peddlers, which include 11 hard-core drug peddlers who have been booked under PIT NDPS, and seized 11 vehicles that were used for NDPS activities in Baramulla district during the first quarter of 2024," a police statement said.
Police said they recovered contraband and psychotropic substances worth Rs 1.37 crore in the black market.
Meanwhile, the police have also attached property worth Rs 1.55 crore to drug peddlers this year in Baramulla district.
The property and vehicles attached to the district included four residential houses, a shopping complex, a land plot, two i20 cars, one Swift car, and a scooter belonging to drug peddlers in the district during the first quarter of 2024, they said.
"The property of the drug peddlers attached is worth Rs 1.55 crore," a police statement said.
They said the action was taken under Sections 68-E and 68-F (1) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act of 1985.
The police said the properties attached were identified as illegally acquired property during the course of investigations and inquiries conducted by the police.
"The properties were prima facie acquired from illicit trafficking in Narcotic drug and Psychotropic substances by the drug peddlers," the statement said.
This operation reaffirms the commitment of Police to combat the drug menace, the statement said.
The police have requested that community members come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood.
"Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt with as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of the drug menace," police said.
