| Workshop on “capacity building of Women Managers in Hr Education” concludes | | | Early times report Jammu, Mar 4- The 5-day UGC SAM (Sensitization, Awareness, Motivation) workshop on the theme “Capacity building of Women Managers in Higher Education” organized by the Centre for Women’s Studies and P.G Home Science (CRM&E), Government College for Women, Parade, concluded with the sensitization and empowerment of 35 participants drawn from universities and colleges of Northern India, mainly Jammu region, Himachal Pradesh and Punjab. The workshop was convened with the UGC assistance during the XIth Plan period. Dr. Pam Rajput and Professor Sushila Kaushik who represented UGC as the Member National Consultative Committee were the Core Group Resource Persons of the workshop. Dr. Poonam Dhawan, Director, Centre for Women Studies, University of Jammu was the Regional Coordinator (NWR) and Dr. Shashi Kaul was the local Coordinator. The organizing committee of the workshop headed by the Principal of the College Dr. Savitri Sharma, Coordinator Dr. Shashi Kaul and Assistant Coordinator Prof. Nidhi Kotwal extended their gratitude to the first Lady of the J&K State, Usha Vohra, N.K Verma, Commissioner Secretary, Dr. N.D Wani, Director Colleges, Resource persons, Prof. Pam Rajput, Prof. Susheela Kaushik, Prof. Reicha Tanwar, Prof. Poonam Dhawan, Dr. Manvinder Kaur, Dr. Renu Gupta(MIER), Dr. Yasmeen Ashai and Prof. Sandhya Bhardwaj for making this workshop a success. During the workshop, different themes were taken up by experts in which five manuals developed by noted women scholars in India were transacted using participatory approach by experts from UGC and other master trainers. The workshop not only aroused the participants to self-introspect themselves but also accepted the need for a change in the existing social set-up. The objective of the workshop was focused by Prof. Reicha Tanwar Regional Coordinator North Zone. She emphasized on the contribution of Women faculty in higher education to become competent managers and to facilitate girls to pursue higher education in a conducive and gender sensitive environment. Prof. N.D Wani emphasized the importance of women in decision making positions and policy making. “The University Grants Commission has been emphasizing gender equity and inclusion in higher education policies and curricula, and this is clearly articulated in the XIth Plan of the UGC. To achieve this objective, one area of concern is the need to increase the number of women in decision-making positions in higher education and develop a gender friendly environment,” informed Dr Shashi Kaul while elaborating on the objective of the workshop.
