International Conference on Physics concludes at CUJ

JAMMU, Apr 6: The International Conference on Physics for Sustainable Development organised by the Department of Physics and Astronomical Sciences held at the Satish Dhawan Center for Space Science, CU Jammu, concluded on a high note after two days of engaging discussions and presentations. The conference, which brought together researchers, academics, industry professionals, and policymakers from around the world, served as a vital platform for exploring the intersection of physics and sustainable development.
The inauguration ceremony, graced by Prof. Sanjeev Jain, the Honorable Vice Chancellor, CU Jammu, set the tone for the event. Prof. Jain emphasised the importance of research and innovation in universities for national growth and development. He praised the efforts of the Department of Physics in organizing the conference and highlighted the inspirational value of such gatherings for students and faculty.
Dr. D. Kanjilal, the Guest of Honor and Keynote Speaker, underscored the contribution of physics to sustainable development. Professor H.C. Swart and Prof. Arun Bharti, were acknowledged as guest of honour and Special Guest, respectively, emphasizing that research and innovation are key drivers of rapid development.
The first day of the conference featured a series of insightful presentations. Dr. Ashutosh Kumar discussed "Gallium Nitrides for Green Transitions," Dr. Vikash Sharma presented on "Transparent Solar Cells," Dr. Kailash C. Juglan explored the "Investigation of Acoustic and Volumetric Properties of Liquid Mixtures Containing Glycols," and Dr. B.C. Chauhan delved into the "Mystery of Dark Matter."
Day two began with first session chaired by Prof. Deepak Pathania and, featuring invited talks and oral presentations on topics such as electronic excitation-driven structural evolution in nuclear ceramics by Prof. P K Kulriya, from JNU, synthesis of wideband gap-based nanostructures by Dr. Ankush Vij CUH, and magneto-rheological properties by Dr. Noor Jahan from CUHP.
The conference also included parallel sessions chaired by Dr. Vishal Sharma, Prof. R Balaji, experts in the field, covering a wide range of topics including solid-state lighting applications by Dr. Vijay Kumar, NIT Srinagar, energetic ion beams induced modifications by Dr. Ratnesh Kumar from UPES, hydrogels for sustainable development by Dr. Vishal Sharma, Panjab University Chandigarh, and materials for lasers. A talk on the significance and implications of electrochemical Sensing was presented by Dr. Sandeep Arya, University of Jammu. Poster presentations further enriched the discourse, showcasing diverse perspectives on physics and sustainable development.
The valedictory function was graced by Prof. Deepak Pathania, Dean of Research Studies, CUJ as chief guest and Prof. B. C. Chouhan of CUHP as the guest of honour. They encouraged participants to carry forth the knowledge and connections gained, fostering continued collaboration towards a more sustainable future.Prof. Vinay Kumar, HOD Physics and Astronomical Sciences, Prof. Suram Singh, Chairman, ICPSD-2024 and Dr. Ankush Kumar were also present in the valedictory function. As attendees departed, they carried with them new insights and ideas, inspired to contribute to the advancement of sustainable development through the lens of physics. Dr. Manvi Rajput, joint Secretary of ICPSD-2024 conducted the proceedings.
