Each fire station costs Rs 1.30cr,
Needs 26 man for operations

JAMMU, March 04 – Minister for Rural Development. Ali Mohammad Sagar, today informed the Legislative Assembly during Question Hour that there was no Fire Fighting Station in Bishnah, Khagh, Narbal, Rathsun and Bemina areas.
Replying to the questions raised by Dr. Shafi Ahmad Wani, Ashwani Sharma and Mr. Mohammad Irfan Shah,. Sagar said that during the last one year, 49 fire calls were attended by the Fire and Emergency Services in the above areas and the total losses due to fire incidents were estimated at Rs 73 lakh.
Sagar said that these areas have already been surveyed by the Home Department for establishment of ‘D’ category Fire and Emergency Station, except Rathsun. He, however, said that Fire and Emergency Stations could not be established owing to limited resources, including man power and machinery, as establishment of each Station involves an amount of Rs 1.30 crores, besides deployment of 26 personnel per station. He said that after proper survey, the above areas would be considered for setting up of Fire and Emergency Stations there.
. Sagar also responded to the supplementary questions raised by Mr. Jugal Kishore,. G.M. Saroori, Ch. Mohammad Ramzan, Mr. Sartaj Madni, Mr.Nazir Amnad Gurezi,.Shabir Ahmad Khan, Nasir Aslam Wani, Ms Sakina Ittoo, Master Lal Chand,.Jagdsih Raj Sapolia, Yash Paul Kundal, Abdul Haq Khan, Syed Bashir Ahmad, Mr.Nizam-ud-Din Bhat, Rashpal SinghWaqar Rasool and Mubarak Gul regarding setting up of full-fledged Fire and Emergency Stations in their constituencies. He said that during the regime of previous government, 32 new Fire and Emergency Stations were announced, but none made functional, adding that these would be re-examined by the Government.
Sagar while agreeing with the members who raised the supplementaries, said that for setting up any new Fire and Emergency Station, parameters like distance, population and topography are kept in view and the areas are categorized as A, B, C and D zones depending on the risk of fire incidence. He assured the members that a comprehensive survey would be conducted a fresh in the entire State for setting up of new Fire and Emergency Stations keeping in view the requirements of the areas and other criteria
