JAMMU, March 04 – The Minister for Finance, Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Mr. A. R. Rather on behalf of the Chief Minister today introduced two Bills in the Legislative Assembly, “A Bill to amend the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation Act, 2004 (LA Bill No. 3 of 2009)” and “A Bill to amend the Jammu and Kashmir State Electricity Regulatory Commission Act, 2000 (LA Bill No. 4 of 2009)”. The Bill to amend the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation Act, seeks to replace the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Ordinance, 2008 (Ordinance No. 1 of 2008) by an Act of the State Legislature. Under the said Ordinance, amendments were made in the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation Act, 2004 due to persistent demand from the members of the reserved categories for providing them the benefits which were available to them under notification SRO-126 of 1994 as against the benefits provided under notification SRO-294 of 2005. The J&K State Electricity Regulatory Commission Amendment Act, 2009 envisages legal frame work for adoption of tariff determined through transparent bidding process for development of electric power generation projects in the State. Mr. Rather also introduced, the Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir (Thirty-Fourth Amendment) Bill, 2009 (LA Bill No. 5of 2009)”, to bring the salaries of the State Governor and the High Court Judges at par with their counterparts in other States.
