| 5088 ration tickets in Jammu, | | 466 in valley detected from BPL list | |

Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control Mr.Taj Mohi-ud-Din, on behalf of the Chief Minister, today informed the Legislative Council that even though the distribution of ration cards among rationees is a cumbersome process, necessary steps are being taken to streamline the distribution process. He said that the connivance of officials with the dealers will not be tolerated and those found involved in the said act would be booked under law. Mr. Taj said that between 2002-03 and 2006-07, the department of CA&PD has issued 28,78,937 ration cards of which, 2345,571 cards are issued in Kashmir division and 5,35,366 cards in Jammu division. The sale price of ration cards is Rs 10 for APL, BPL families and Rs 5 for AAY families. He said that against the total cost of Rs 2.75 crore, an amount of Rs 2. 28 crore has been remitted into the treasuries and added Rs 47 lakh is still outstanding against various officials. He said that the concerned Directors of CA&PD have been asked to effect recovery of non-remitted amount immediately. Mr. R. S. Chib and Murtaza Ahmad Khan also raised supplementaries. Replying to another question by Mr. Ali Mohammad Sofi, the PHE Minister, on behalf of the Chief Minister, informed the House that ineligible families in the BPL/IAY lists are regularly being weeded out and substituted by eligible ones. He said that it is continues process and the families whose members get employed are excluded from the lists and those having least resources, besides no employment are being included in the BPL/IAY lists. Mr.Taj said that so far, 5088 such ration tickets have been deleted in Jammu region and 466 in Kashmir Valley. He said the complaints received by the Committees constituted for the purpose are being verified and if found correct the names are deleted from the lists. In reply to the supplementaries raised by Mr. Mohammad Sharief Niaz, Mr. Abdul Gani Vakil, Mr. Murtaza Ahmad Khan and Mr. Mohammad Rashid Qureshi, the Minister said that the guidelines for issuance of ration cards are being fully adhered, adding that no intermingling is done while distributing ration cards under different categories. He said that the storekeeper of a particular village has been entrusted the task of identifying the families, who do not come under the purview of BPL scheme and delete their names from the list. Responding to another question by Mr. Abdul Gani Vakil, the Minister admitted detection of shortage of gunny bags during the physical verification of godowns at Lethpora and Gulab Bagh in Pulwama and Srinagar districts in April, 2007. He said that FIR has been lodged in both the cases and the matter is under investigation, adding that appropriate action shall follow after the investigation is over.
