| Hiring process on for 3735 vacancies | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, MARCH 4: The largest employer in Jammu and Kashmir, the state government today said that it has identified 3735 fresh vacancies in gazetted and non-gazetted cadres while claimed that 6203 other vacancies have been filled up in last two months. Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather, told Legislative Assembly that recruitment agencies have been directed to further speed up the selection process to fill up vacancies referred to them from time to time. As a result, about 6203 selections have been made in just last two months by SSB in non-gazetted cadre, whereas, Public Service Commission has made 412 selections in gazetted cadre during the same period. Replying to supplementaries to clubbed questions of Mr. Rafi Mir and Mr. Abdul Razak Zawora, the Minister said that out of 17117 vacancies referred to SSB, 2074 selections have been made in 2008, whereas PSC has made 1292 selections out of 4141 referred vacancies, during the same period. The Minister said that Government will strictly monitor functioning of the concerned recruitment agencies to also ensure that all the vacancies in various department referred to them are filled in a time bound manner. Sharing concern of the members about the fate of contractuals, adhocees and daily wagers, the Minister said that committees constituted to review the matter have been directed to submit their reports by August 2009 positively, adding that contractual appointments will not be terminated and their fate will not be put at stake. He said cases of contractuals facing age-bar shall also be considered. Elaborating further, the Minister said that the Government has identified 3735 fresh vacancies in gazetted and non-gazetted cadres during last two months, out of which, 1757 vacancies have already been referred to concerned recruitment agencies. Earlier, replying to the main question, the Minister said that the State Cabinet in its meeting on May 20, 2008, decided to bring a legislation through an ordinance for regularizing the services of adhoc and contractuals. He said the State Cabinet in its meeting held on February 19, 2009 again considered the issue and constituted a committee comprising of the Advocate General, Principal Secretary, Law & Parliamentary Affairs, Commissioner/Secretary, Finance and Commissioner Secretary, GAD to examine legal and financial issues involved in the matter and has been asked to submit the report in a time bound manner by or before August, 2009. Further action shall be taken on receipt of the report of the committee, he added. Mr. Rather, said that the Government has formulated the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Services Reference of Vacancies and Holding of Meetings of Departmental Promotion Committee Rules, June 2005, notified vide SRO-166, dated 14th June, 2005. Under the Rules, it has been made mandatory for the Government Departments to refer the vacancies falling under direct recruitment quota to the J&K Public Service Commission and the J&K Service Selection Board by 15th of January every year.
