JAMMU, Apr 12: In order to further demonstrate its dedication to providing high-quality education, Yogananda College of Engineering and Technology [YCET] held a session on "Design thinking, critical thinking and innovation design" in conjunction and extension with an IIC Activity.
The event was started with the welcome address by the student coordinator, IIC Cell Paras Sharma (2nd semester CSE). The resource person for the seminar was Er. Rajnish Magotra HOD, Civil Engineering Department. Er. Rajnish Magotra did his B.Tech from University of Mysore and M.Tech in CTM from Punjab University, Chandigarh. He is having an experience of 24 years of teaching experience. He published more than 14 technical papers in national and international journals. He has attended many national as well as international workshops. He is a paper reviewer in many international papers along with this he is the member of many technical societies like ICT, ASCI. He is a NIRF Coordinator under IIC-Cell at YCET. Besides he is a student co-coordinator and a member of board of studies GCET, JUIT, BUET, etc.
In the very beginning of his session he illuminated the audience with the concept of critical thinking. He shed the light on the difference between day to day thinking and critical thinking. He said that day to day thinking is not critical thinking instead it is deep thinking, thinking which goes beyond two layers of thought process. He described how, despite the world changing more quickly than before, some things-that is, ideas-remained the same because they were centered on human needs. He enlightened the students with the fact that innovation should be upgraded while studying consumer's need.
He further added that critical thinking and innovation should be based on the three things: WHAT, HOW and WHY. What is the objective of the innovation, how one should carry that out and why one should follow that path?
He then said that no two individuals have same perspective and keeping this in mind one should work towards his/her own unique perspective. Also he described major five steps towards design thinking: Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype and Test. He also explained in detail about critical thinking and innovation design by giving the examples of various products and businesses such as Amul, Coka Cola beverage, etc.
Both the amount of information and scope of knowledge grew during the talk. The audience really got enriched & benefitted by this interactive session.
The session was summed up with the memento ceremony, and the vote of thanks. Dean Academics YCET, Er. Dinesh Gupta, SR. Prof. Er. K.R.Sharma and HoDs of various departments presented the memento to the guest for the day Er. Rajnish Magotra.
