| On Holi, add cantion to joy and verve: Bhandari tills Jammuite | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, MARCH 05 -Appealing the public to celebrate the pious festival of colours with traditional religious fervour with decency and discipline, the Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, Dr. Mandeep K. Bhandari stressed that ‘Holi’ should be celebrated by maintaining the ethics which make it one of the holiest festival. Interacting with the officers during the meeting convened in his office chamber here this afternoon, Mr. Bhandari asserted that celebrating ‘Holi’ in a restricted and civilized manner would make it only more enjoyable but also set an example for the younger generations. He said that ‘Holi’ celebration takes place with lot of joy and verve throughout the country. The enthusiasm of the people reaches its peak and matches with the nature which is in full bounty at the time of ‘Holi’. He asked the Sale Tax and Drug Control departments’ authorities to personally monitor the rates of colours in markets and issue strict instructions to shopkeepers not to sell substandard and industrial dyes, other colours hazardous to health. Holi is being celebrated in Indian since time immemorial but the popularity of Holi celebrations seems to be rising with every passing year and so is the level of hoo-ha. As no other festival gives so much liberty to the people to let their hair loose and enjoy their hidden crazy self. The Deputy Commissioner said that in some states there is also a tradition of breaking the pot full of buttermilk which is hung high on the streets. A group of boys form a human pyramid and one of them break the pot. All this while womenfolk throw buckets of colour water on them and sing traditional folk songs. And after a wild and eventful day, evenings are celebrated in a dignified manner by visiting friends and relatives. People exchange sweets and hug each other conveying the warm wishes for Holi.
