Nine drug peddlers arrested in Kashmir: Police

SRINAGAR, Apr 19: Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested nine drug peddlers and recovered a huge quantity of contraband substances from them in Anantnag and Baramulla districts, police said on Friday.
Seven drug peddlers were arrested in the jurisdiction of five police stations in south Kashmir's Anantnag district. Police arrested two persons identified as Feroz Ahmad Rather and Aijaz Ahmad Mantoo, both residents of Waghama Bijbehara, and recovered about 09 kg of poppy straw from them, while 16.450 kg of cannabis powder was recovered from the possession of Suhail Ahmad Dar of Nagam Kokernag and Reyaz Ahmad Mir of Watnard Kokernag.
Police in Uttrasoo arrested Shakeel Ahmad Wani and recovered about 21 grams of Charas, 350 grams of Poppy Straw, and Rs 10,000 in cash from him while at Aishmuqam. Police apprehended one more person identified as Ghulam Nabi Bhat of Yenner Pahalgam, along with about 4 kg of poppy straw and 1.25 kg of bung boosa. During checking, police recovered about 5 kg of cannabis powder from the possession of Indraz Ahmad Thoker, a resident of Waghama Bijbehara.
All seven accused persons were arrested, and cases under relevant sections of the NDPS Act got registered in the five respective police stations of the district.
Two more drug peddlers were arrested at Thatamulla Boniyar and Authorra Kreei in north Kashmir's Baramlla district, along with 30 grams of chars and 200 tables of Psychotropic substances.
A vehicle used by the drug peddlers was also seized, police said.
