| Police transfers politically motivated? | | | MUNISH GUPTA Jammu, Mar 5: Former minister and member of the Legislative Assembly Harsh Dev Singh today alleged that the recent postings and transfers in the Jammu and Kashmir police department were politically motivated and reckless. The transfers were made only to accommodate blue-eyed for vested interests, Harsh said on the floor of the House while raising a question during the Zero Hour in the ongoing Assembly session here. The transfers were absolutely reckless and unscrupulous while shifting of one of the senior police officers was also pre-mature, the MLA alleged. Harsh however, quoting three names DIG Alok Puri (transferred from Udhampur-Reasi Range), SSP Shakeel Beig (transferred from PCR Jammu) and SP Sanjay Kotwal, said that all of these police officers were transferred from their present place of postings to the Vigilance Organisation but their joining was not accepted. The Vigilance Commissioner refused to accept their joining and said that he had no information about their transfer to the department, the MLA alleged. Meanwhile replying on behalf of the government, Minister for Social Welfare, Ali Mohammad Sagar said, the transfers were genuine and the credibility of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah cannot be challenged, and added reckless is not an appropriate term to be used for Omar. Whether one likes or dislikes, no matters but the Chief Minister is credible of taking decisions, the Minister added. The state Cabinet under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah approved the transfers and postings of senior police officers on February 28.
