| Workshop on "children in difficult circumstances" | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 6- One day interactive workshop on children in difficult circumstances was held by CACE&E in collaboration with the CHILDLINE India here today. Prof Poonam Dhawan, Director CACE&E who presided over the function stressed upon the need to identify priority groups of children in distress in Jammu, to undertake exploratory studies for understanding the needs of children in distress and also to build partnership between the organizations working for the cause. Dr. Kavita Suri, Assistant director continuing education also addressed the delegates. Dr. Priyanka Sharma (PO) briefed the group about the purpose to organize the workshop and also the expected out come of the same. Dr. Nancy Mishra city coordinator CHILDLINE oriented the group about the role of CHILDLINE and the nature of the workshop. Other faculty members of the center also contributed in the workshop. The workshop among others was attended by District Social Welfare Officer, CDPO and ACDPO Jammu and representatives from NGO’s including Ved Mandir, SOS Gol Gujral, SOS Channi Rama, Home for mentally retarded children,( Sehyog). In was decided to send the recommendation to social welfare department to create a short stay home for children and also to form CWC’S to facilitate children in distress. The organizations present in the workshop expressed the need for establishment of a legal aid cell for helping them in dealing with legal matters. A participatory approach of all the NGO’s is must for working together for the causer of children. Center for Adult and Continuing Education and extension would initiate projects based on the recommendation of the participant NGO’s for formulating programs which can help in ameliorating the sufferings of distressed children.
