| New expressways, road projects for Srinagar city | | | Early Times report
JAMMU, March 06 – The Minister for Rural Development and Panchayats, Mr. Ali Mohammad Sagar has said that five projects for construction of roads, expressways and flyovers have been prioritized for sanction for Srinagar City under Central Road Fund by the Union Ministry of Shipping, Road, Transport and Highways during the current year. These include improvement and upgradation of Khanyar Qamarwari Gojwara (Nallamar) road including additional bridge over river Jehlum (Rs. 15.73 crore), widening of Maulana Azad Road from Budshah to M. A. Bridge (Rs. 18.31 crore), Widening of road from Police Control Room to Batamaloo bridge (Rs. 9.84 crore), improvement and upgradation of Baghi Ali Mardan Khan-Hazratbal road (Rs. 5.98 crore) and improvement and strengthening of existing road of Khanyar-Zadibal-pandach (Rs. 2.98 crore), he added. The Minister was replying to the Calling Attention Motion moved by Mr. Mubarak Gul regarding the conditions of roads in Srinagar city. Mr. Sagar said the up-gradation work of road from Jahangir Chowk to Sekidafar including Batmaloo-Tengpora Bypass road is presently in progress through ERA whereas up-gradation work of Dr. Ali Jan Road from Sekidafar to SKIMS shall be taken up by ERA soon after the work of laying of sewerage lines on this road is completed. The Minister said that in order to improve the condition of roads in the Srinagar city, construction of flyovers/expressways at important spots is under active consideration of the Government and some projects repots have already been submitted to Centre for sanction under Mega City Scheme which include widening the road from J&K Bank, Dalgate to Dharmadas Temple on Dalgate Khanyar road and widening of Boulevard road at a cost of Rs. 60.84 crore, construction of Flyover and expressway corridor from Jehangir Chowk to Rambagh bridge at a cost of Rs. 130.00 crore, construction of expressway corridor from Budshah Chowk to Dalgate crossing (J&K Bank) at a cost of Rs. 120.00 crore and Srinagar bye-pass from Pampore via Lasjan/Mehjoor Nagar at a cost of Rs. 300.00 crore. The Minister further said that during current year, Rs. 23 crore have been released for removal of bottleneck on roads in Srinagar city. He said that three schemes for Noorbagh-Palpora Gundrosahan road, Shunglipora-Badiweri road and Saidpora-Sangam road are presently being implemented at an estimated cost of Rs. 17.95 crore. Similarly, 15 minor schemes at an estimated cost of Rs. 35.57 lakh are under execution in the Idgah constituency at present.
