| Mughal road to be motorable by March 2011 | | | JAMMU, MARCH 06–Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control Mr. Taj Mohi-ud-Din today, said in the Legislative Council, that Rs. 229 crore have been incurred on the construction of Mughal road till February 2009. He said that the single lane of the road has been made trafficable for a full length of 84 kms from Bufliaz to Shopian, adding that 56 kms of the road have been made double lane by earth work excavation. He said that the road shall be completed by March 2011. Mr. Taj said that in order to make the road fair-weather for vehicular traffic throughout the year, two snow clearance machines, one each on Shopian and Bufliaz side have been envisaged in the revised project of Mughal road. The Minister was replying to the questions raised by Mr. M. Y. Taing and Mr. Mohammad Rashid Qureshi and supplementary of Mr. Murtaza Ahmad Khan in the Upper House today. Replying to another question raised by Mr. Mohd. Sharief Niaz, the Minister said that the Government has taken up number of schemes under various programmes to improve road connectivity in the State. He said that a proposal to construct a motorable bridge on Bella road across Krehara nallah in Doda district has been prepared at an estimated cost of Rs 70 lakhs and possibilities are being examined for getting NABARD loan assistance for the construction of the said bridge. The supplementaries to the question were also raised by Mr. P. Namgyal. Mr. Taj Mohi-ud-Din, while responding to a question raised by Mr. Abdul Gani Vakil, informed the House that additional amount of Rs 58 crore have been released to districts during the year 2008-09. He said that the additionality is given for those specific works which direly need funds for completion. Replying to supplementary raised by Mr. Murtaza Ahmad Khan, the Minister said that the funds are released by the Planning Department purely on merit basis, with full knowledge of the priority and the importance of a particular project.
