| Policy to prevent road accidents on anvil: Sagar | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, MARCH 06– Minister for Rural Development & Panchayati Raj Mr. Ali Mohammad Sagar today said in the Legislative Council, that Government was contemplating to formulate a comprehensive Transport Policy so that the rfrequent accidents on different roads of the State are prevented. He said that under the Policy, coordination of R&B, Police, Urban Development, Transport and Allied agencies would be made mandatory. The Minister was replying to questions raised by Sardar T. S. Wazir and Mr. R. S. Chib. He said that short, medium and long-term measures for averting the road accidents and ensuring smooth plying of traffic have been envisaged under the Policy. He said that the policy aims to provide civic amenities to the commuters, construction of bus stands, passenger sheds, workshops, marshalling yards, parking bays and improvement of roads, besides removal of traffic bottlenecks. Regarding the inconvenience caused to the female passengers, Mr. Sagar said that specific directions have been issued to all transport functionaries for earmarking seats for ladies and handicaps. He said that the passenger vehicles not complying Government instructions would not be granted fitness certificates for renewal of the vehicles. Mr. Sagar said that under Mega City Scheme, the construction of fly-overs and expressways in twin cities of Srinagar and Jammu have been submitted to the Centre for funding.
