| 69918 families benefited under TPDS in Poonch | | | Early Times report
JAMMU, March 06-Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control Mr. Taj Mohi-ud-Din, today while replying to a calling attention notice given by Mr. Mohammad Rashid Qureshi, stated in the Legislative Council that under Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS), 69918 families have been covered in district Poonch. Giving category-wise break up, he said, that 30598 ration tickets under APL, 27376 under BPL and 11944 under AAY category have been issued in the district to the beneficiaries. The Minister said that so far as Mendhar tehsil is concerned 17488 families stand covered under TPDS. He said that 6397 families were covered under APL category, whileas, 7808 families under BPL and 3283 families under AAY category. The Minister said that BPL and AAY families are regularly being provided cent percent food-grains @ 35 kg per family per month on subsidized and highly subsidized rates. As regards supply of food-grains under APL category the same are provided at a uniform scale of 13 kgs per soul per month, he added. Mr.Taj further said sugar is being provided in whole of the State including district Poonch and tehsil Mendhar at a uniform scale of 7 kgs per soul per month. As regards k.oil the same is being provided in district Poonch including tehsil Mendhar at a uniform scale of 5 liters per family per month, he added. Mr.Taj said that since the food-grains, sugar and k. oil in whole of the State is of average off-take and therefore, there is no shortage of food-grains, sugar and k. oil either in district poonch or in tehsil Mendhar. The Minister said that so far as supply of ration as per eating habits of the area is concerned due care has been taken while fixing wheat/atta ration quota. He said that under APL category, 5 kg rice and 8 kg wheat and atta is given per soul per month. Under BPL category 20 kg rice and 15 kg wheat is given to per family per month, whileas under AAY category 20 kg rice and 15 kg wheat and atta is provided to per family per month, in district Poonch and tehsil Mendhar. He said despite the fact that the department is not having its own quality control cell, due care is being taken to lift only standard quality of food-grains as the department is fully equipped with experienced hands having better expertise in this regard. He said that there are clear cut instructions to the officials of CA&PD department dealing with lifting of food-grains not to lift substandard food-grains from Food Corporation of India.
