| Coalition wins 7 LC seats | | PDP – BJP ensures surprise victory of Panthers party candidate | | Sandeep Bhat Jammu, March 07: The ruling national conference congress coalition today want seven out of nine seats of upper house of state legislature as surprise victory of NPP candidate kicked of a political row. As expected the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) also won one seat Of the 7 seats won by the ruling coalition, the National Conference won 5 seats. The party’s candidates Mr. Vijay Bakaya, Mr. Khalid Najeeb Suharwardy, Mr. Showkat Hussain, Mr. Altaf Wani, and Mr. Ajatshatru Singh were declared elected by the Returning Officer.
The Congress party candidates Mr. B. R. Kundal and Mr. Jahangir Ahmad Mir won two seats,while PDP’s Mr. Asgar Ali and NPP’s Syed Rafi Shah were also declared elected. As many as 11 seats had fallen vacant in the Legislative Council for which election notification was issued by the Secretary, Legislative Council as the Returning Officer for the election. Two candidates from Kargil and Leh Agha Sayed Ahmad and Narboo Gyalchan have already been declared elected unopposed.
Jammu and Kashmir National Panther Party candidate emerged as surprise winner to defeat coalition partners on one of the two seats from Kashmir valley in upper House even of the total nine seats. As soon as this news spread in the corridors of Legislative assembly, the treasury benches started leveling accusation towards opposition members of toeing together in defeating coalition candidate. It all happened that time when, PDP MLA Peer Mansoor from Shangus constituency moved Private resolution bill on Renaming Anantnag District as Islamabad District. Ali Mohd. Sagar, Minister for Rural Development Department accused the Legislators of People Democratic Party and Bhartiya Janta Party as the killers of innocent peoples (Muslims in Kashmir and that Hindus in Jammu), and added that PDP and BJP are the two faces of same coin because, Panther nominee Syed Rafiq Ahmed Shah won from Kashmir, because both BJP & PDP have come together in defeating ruling coalition candidate. He further said that the truth has come before the people that how these two parties (BJP and PDP) are befooling the people in the name of the region and religion. These parties played with the blood of people and were responsible for creating wedge between the people of two regions, and now, today they are speaking same language. They only are accusing each other to get political mileage, but inside, they are one. Sagar further said that State president BJP and Legislator Ashok Khajuria has himself said in a press conference that PDP is the creation of BJP and it was formed with BJP and it was formed with the assistance of Rupees Nine Lakh initially to counter National Conference in the State. On this, a PDP member started raising counter accusation and abuses each other. BJP also joined PDP on hurling accusation on Ruling Coalition. From Treasury benches, Nazir Gurezi, NC legislator from Gurezi, Vikar Rasool, Congress Legislator from Banihal, Bimla Luthra, G. M. Saroori, Sham Lal Sharma Minister of Health, Surjeet Singh Salathia, Minister of Industries and Commerce, Sakina Ittoo, Shabbir Khan stood up and started raising slogans like BJP – PDP Bhai-Bhai, Shame-Shame, Chor-Chor, Masere Bhai, PDP-BJP Dosti Hai Hai, which angered opposition, who started raising counter slogans like Cong –NC Hai Hai, Behgunaon Ka Katle Aam Band Karo. Basharat Bukhari, Syed Bashir Ahmed Nizamudin Bhat, Khalil Bandh, A.R Veeri tried to storm into the well, but were asked by speaker Mohd. Akbar come to be seated at their places, but his appeal failed and he asked marshals and watch and ward officers to threw them out later, the members went to their places, and immediately stood up to raise slogans against coalition Govt. when Sagar again made some remark on Amarnath Land controversy towards PDP and BJP legislators. Earlier, the mobile phones of two legislators, one from BJP and Kafil-ur-Rehman of NC were seized by staff of assembly on the direction of Speaker
