Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 4: In a bid to foster practical knowledge and environmental consciousness among its students, Stephens International Public School (SIPS) orchestrated an enlightening educational excursion to the Faculty of Agriculture at SKUAST-Jammu. Led by Yogeshwar and Sarabjeet, 160 students and 08 dedicated staff members embarked on a transformative journey aimed at gaining firsthand exposure to agricultural practices and innovations.
The visit commenced with a warm welcome from Prof. Ravinder Singh, who provided an insightful overview of the day's activities. Prof. Anil Kumar Sharma, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, spearheaded the initiative, aiming to immerse students in the realm of sustainable agriculture.
One of the highlights of the visit was a captivating presentation by Prof. Parshant Bakshi, Head of the Division of Fruit Science and Head of the Centre for Organic and Natural Farming. Prof. Bakshi elucidated the University's pioneering initiatives and underscored the significance of sericulture and apiculture in fostering sustainable agricultural practices.
A particularly engaging session was led by Prof. Kamlesh Bali, where students were treated to a hands-on demonstration of silk production. Prof. Bali meticulously explained the intricate process, from the stages of larva to cocoon, providing students with invaluable insights into the lifecycle of silkworms.
Throughout the visit, students exhibited remarkable enthusiasm and engagement, with individuals like Marvi Khajuria, Sukanya Bharti, Sidhant, and Devyanshu actively contributing to the smooth execution of the program.
As the day drew to a close, both students and staff expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the faculty and staff at SKUAST-Jammu for organizing such an enriching experience. The visit not only sparked curiosity but also instilled a profound sense of environmental stewardship and agricultural innovation among the students.
This immersive educational journey aligns with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasizes skill development and hands-on learning experiences. It sets the stage for future collaborations and endeavors in the field of agriculture, empowering students to become agents of positive change in their communities.
