Mumbai: The sensational details of the 7/11 Mumbai train bombings plot having been funded by the Al-Qaeda and executed by Lashkar-e-Toiba have been collected by investigators and the Maharashtra government.
Here’s a look at the who’s who behind the terror gameplan.
The conspiracy behind the 7/11 blasts was hatched over five years ago in 2000-2001, when some of the accused in the blasts visited Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir to undergo training with the who's who of the world of terror.
The operational work was taken care of by the Pakistan-based terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba while funds and the crucial training given to the culprits came from the al-Qaeda, clearly underlining the spread of global terror.
Over 50 persons were involved in the set up and execution of the Mumbai blasts and unfortunately while many of the accused are already in the police net, some of the masterminds are out of reach, across borders in neighbouring countries.
They have left behind family as well as property in Maharashtra and now the government may send undercover teams into Bangladesh to nab these fugitives.
All these came about from the confessions of some of the accused, notably of Dr Tanvir Ansari and the Sheikh brothers.
While Kamal Ahmed Ansari and Tanvir Ansari have given information about the involvement of the al-Qaeda in funding, Faisal and Muzammil Sheikh have confessed to the involvement of the Lashkar-e-Toiba and the fact that training was given in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir.
The 7/11 route
The kingpin behind the blasts seems to be the LeT's second-in-command Azam Chima who was the main recruiter and also arranged for the funds.
While Chima actually came into Mumbai from Pakistan and went back just before the blasts, some others followed a more complex route which took them to a location in PoK for training at the end of which they travelled to Muzaffarabad, the PoK capital and then to Iran.
They finally flew into Mumbai from Teheran.
A complex web of terror that was woven across countries and organizations, with the sole purpose of destabilising India.
But now it seems the wheel has come a full circle and in spite of initial delays the police have produced the desired results.
