| J&K history to become part of syllabi | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, March 8: The department of education is mulling to introduce the history of Jammu and Kashmir as a subject in the syllabus up to the secondary level. Reports reaching PBI said that the decision in this regard is likely to be made in a meeting which will be attended by senior members of the state board of school education in the coming days. Literary circles believe that ignoring the rich history and culture of Kashmir will have serious ramifications in the future as the younger generations are ignorant about the history of their motherland. Experts believe that 80 percent students in the state are unaware of the history of Kashmir as the text books least mention about the great writers, thinkers and religious leaders of the soil. Secretary education, G A peer told PBI that there is inadequate information available in the books and as such steps will be taken to promote the history of Jammu and Kashmir from class first to secondary level. He said that the board will frame a syllabus for all the regions of the state and a decision will be taken in a high level meeting which will be attended by senior board officials and writers. “While framing the syllabus we will make sure that the history of Kashmir is incorporated in it so that the students don’t remain ignorant about the history of Kashmir,” Peer said. Importantly, the issue of introducing history of Kashmir as a subject was raised many a times by various scholars and thinkers, but the government did not pay any attention towards the implementation of the idea.
