Early Times Report

Srinagar: Normal life remained crippled in many parts of the Srinagar city for the second consecutive day Sunday due to the imposition of undeclared curfew following the death of a youth in CRPF firing on Friday.
Undeclared curfew continued in the old city for the second day today to thwart any attempts by the people to stage protests over the killing of a teenager during Friday protests at Nowhatta.

Hundreds of Troops and policemen were deployed in the old city areas of Nowhatta, Gojwara, Khwaja Bazar and Ranger stop where troops and policemen enforced strict curfew and barred people from moving out of their houses.
At Nowhatta and Khanyar, troops enforced strict restrictions and did not allow transport to ply on the routes leading to the old city areas. They also prevented the movement of the people towards areas of the old city.
The residents of old city alleged that the troops and police did not allow them to purchase milk, bread vegetables and other daily commodities. They said the small children were also prevented from playing in the grounds.
''We have been confined to four walls of our house by the troops and policemen who are deployed in strength,'' Rameez Ahmad, a resident of Gojwara told PBI over phone.
“The troops and policemen did not even allow us to purchase milk and bread for the children,” he added.
Abdul Gani Khan, a resident of Khwaja Bazar said that the troops and policemen have enforced strict curfew in the area from last two days and they don’t allow people to venture out of their houses. Khan said, after pleading before the paramilitary troops, he was able to purchase daily commodities including bread and milk for his family.
“From last two days, troops and policemen have taken us hostage. They shout and warn incase anyone tries to move out of their houses,” Khan said, adding “With difficulty I could manage eatables for my family,”
