NEW DELHI, May 10: Joint Multi-Party delegation (India Alliance) called on Election Commission of India on various electoral issued here today.
The ongoing election has witnessed the most egregious and blatant violations of electoral laws ever committed by those in the ruling party. These are offences committed not by mid level of low level functionaries but by those occupying the highest constitutional offices under our constitution.
Despite documented evidence being catalogued and placed before this Commission, no meaningful action has been taken to penalize those who are guilty in the ruling regime. As a reuslt there has been an unchecked and brazen continuation of these violations, which are now committed with impunity and utter disregard for this Commission’s jurisdiction and powers.
The present representation is our attempt to seek the invocation of its vast powers by this Commission under Article 324 of the Constitution. It is our attempt to ensure the sanctity and transparency of the electoral process aznd to ensure that a level playing field is secured for at least, the remainder of the 2024 general election. They said delay caused in commission publishing voter turn out data for phase 1, 2 of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections & variance in the reported figures of the commission.
Besides Prime Minister’s repeated violation of the model code of conduct and the commission’s advisories (Dt. 01.03.2024) through election speeches and interviews.
In view of the above, we strongly urge this Commission to initiate action against the repeated conduct of Narendra Modi which is duly supported by cogent and undisputable evidence. The blatant nature of these violations by Narendra Modi constitutes a direct challenge to this Commission and it left unchecked will leave a deep impact on the democratic fabric of the nation, delegates said.
The delegation includes Dr. Abhishek Singhvi (INC), Salman Khurshid (INC), KC. Venugopal (INC) TR Balu (DMK), Derek O’Brien (TMC), Sandeep Pathak (AAP), Nilotpal Basu (CPIM), Jitendra Ahwad (NCP), Binoy Viswam (CPI), Priyanka Chaturvedi (SS), Ajay Sadhotra (NC), G. Deverajan (AIFB), NK Premachandran (RSP), Rajeev Dimri (CPI), Mathua Majhi (JMM) and Javed Ali Khan (SP) and others.
