Early Times Report

Jammu, May 10: A one-day summit focusing on promoting entrepreneurship development among youth in the agriculture and food processing sector was successfully organized at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-Jammu) on May 10th, 2024. The event, spearheaded by LEAD in collaboration with SKUAST-Jammu and NAHEP-IDP, aimed to highlight employment and entrepreneurial opportunities in these crucial sectors.
The esteemed gathering witnessed Prof. B. N. Tripathi, Vice Chancellor of SKUAST-Jammu, gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest. In his keynote address, Prof. Tripathi illuminated the audience comprising farmers, youth, entrepreneurs, and students about the remarkable transformation journey of agriculture in India. He underscored the pivotal role of agricultural scientists in revolutionizing crop varieties and technologies, leading to a significant increase in agricultural production.
Prof. Tripathi stressed the importance of nurturing the agri-startup ecosystem and urged young students to explore entrepreneurial avenues. He emphasized the need for practical entrepreneurship training from the undergraduate level itself to empower students to establish their ventures.
Highlighting the Agribusiness Incubator at SKUAST-Jammu, Prof. Tripathi reiterated its crucial role in nurturing youth startups under the RKVY-RAFTAAR project.
A significant milestone was marked during the summit with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between SKUAST-Jammu and LJK Economic Growth and Development Dialogue - LEAD. This MoU aims to foster joint initiatives promoting growth and development in the agriculture and food processing sectors of Ladakh and Jammu & Kashmir.
The signing ceremony, graced by Prof. B. N. Tripathi, witnessed the Registrar of the University, Dr. S.K. Gupta, and Sh. Harinderji from LEAD formalizing the partnership. This collaboration is expected to catalyze initiatives aimed at transforming the agriculture landscape of the region.
The event brought together various stakeholders, including academicians, sector experts, policymakers, entrepreneurs, investors, and youth from Ladakh and Jammu & Kashmir. Two expert lectures were delivered, shedding light on agricultural schemes and startup opportunities in the region.
Panel discussions on different themes further enriched the discourse on entrepreneurship and innovation in agriculture.
