| Mufti ‘appreciates’ coalition’s slogans, wants action concrete | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 8: Former Chief Minister and patron of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mufti Mohammed Sayeed today said that Congress-National Conference (NC) coalition is on test to provide good governance to the people. He, however, made it clear that the coalition, so far, has failed to fulfill aspirations and wishes of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. “Except sloganeering, nothing concrete has been done so far on ground by this regime to mitigate miseries of the common masses”, he observed while addressing a function which was organized in connection with the joining of BSP leader Jagjit Singh Jagga in the party. “How long this coalition will continue to raise slogans to befool the gullible masses?” he asked, adding, “Government should translate its promises into practice to prove its competence”. Referring to the recent killings of innocent people in the firing of the security forces, Sayeed said that instead of raising slogans government should take some effective steps to prevent such unfortunate incidents. “We will not remain as a mute spectator to the misdeeds of this government”, he asserted and reiterated commitment of his party to act as effective opposition to make it voice of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He said that Congress and NC have entered into un-programmatic alliance just to grab power without evolving consensus on vital issues. “We will fill the political vacuum created after formation of Congress-NC alliance”, he said and urged the party workers to spread message of the party in every region and sub-region of the state. Pointing towards joining of large number of people in the party during the last two months, Sayeed said that PDP has emerged as biggest political force in the State. “Result of the 2008 assembly elections was a clear indication that this party has emerged as big force in the political scene of the State”, he said and made it clear that PDP has secured more votes than National Conference in Kashmir Valley. Sayeed said that since its inception PDP has been advocating that dialogue is the only means to solve Kashmir problem. “In a span of just three years, PDP led regime translated its pro-peace reconciliatory policies into reality and convinced both India and Pakistan to take effective steps for restoration of peace in the sub-region”, he said and reminded the people about situation in the State when he took over as Chief Minister of the State in 2002. Jagjit Singh Jagga, while speaking on the occasion, termed Mufti Mohammad Sayeed as visionary leader who brought peace in the sub-continent through his reconciliatory and pro-peace policies. He highlighted problems of Marh assembly segment from where he had contested assembly election and secured good number of votes. In the same function senior Youth Congress leader Rajinder Kumar also joined the PDP. Senior leaders of PDP included Daman Bhasin, Trilok Singh Bajwa, Ved Mahajan, Manjit Singh, Shanti Devi, Th. Balbir Singh, Falil Singh, Abdul Rashid and Ashok Jogi were present on the occasion.
