Jammu, Mar 9- The Shanti Gupta Centre for Women Studies functioning under the auspices of the MIER College of Education celebrated “International Women’s day” by organizing a panel discussion on the topic ‘Role of Women in Empowering Women’. The program started by paying homage to late Shanti Gupta, one of the founding members of MIER. On the occasion her contributions, sense of duty and the overwhelming love and affection for students was remembered. Chairman MIER Group of Institutions Dr.Arun K.Gupta was the Chief Guest on the occasion, while principal MIER College of Education Dr. Renu Gupta presided over the function. The program was attended by distinguished dignitaries, heads of the departments of various wings of MIER and the faculty members. While highlighting the role of women, Dr. Arun K. Gupta said that women are instrumental in bringing a change in the mindset of the society. She lends an exceptional energy and excels in carving a space for herself in the society. Women are leaping into the male bastion today and more women should be at the helm of affairs because a large representation of women in the management would help women employees to take decisions to bring about desirable changes both within and outside an organization. He also stressed that organizations have to be sensitive towards their needs and should go the extra mile to retain talent. Dr. Poonam Jamwal, Coordinator, Centre for Women Studies also discussed the activities conducted in the current session. An interactive session was also organized wherein the faculty members expressed their views on the role of women in empowering other women. Dr. Renu Gupta, Principal concluded the discussion by talking of capacity building for women by making them more confident and to enable them to develop their competencies in order to get truly empowered.
