| Home Guards take protest rally to sectt | | | Jammu, March 9 In an attempt to open the eyes of administration to meet their demands, All J&K Home-guard Welfare Association, Jammu today staged another protest rally in support of their long pending demand of regularization. Hundreds of Home-guards today took out a procession from Divisional Commissioner office and passed through Kacchi Chawni but they were halted near City Chowk by the police resulted into scuffle between Home-guards and Police. The police however detained some members of Homeguards included their state president Kamla Sharma. Addressing the protestors during the rally, Kamla Sharma, president of All J&K Home Guard Welfare Association demanding for their regularization, enhancement of wages keeping in view the present price hike of commodities. “We want to registrar our claim with the government to enhance our wages which are far behind with those paid to the guards in other states,” said Kamla Sharma. She said that since the government releases nearly 85 cores annually for the Home Guards whereas the monthly salary received by those in Jammu and Kashmir is just Rs 410 per month as compared to nearly 8000 paid to the home guards in other states. “We are 1500 home guards in the state who are underpaid and government is sleeping over the cause,” said the president. She warned the government that the jawans of Homeguards will go for hunger strike if the government doesn’t announce the decision taken to meet their demands. It is to mention, in J&K assembly JSM legislator Ashwani Kumar Sharma staged walkout in protest against police action on Homeguards.
