Government Polytechnic Jammu celebrates World Telecommunication & Information Society Day

JAMMU, May 17: Government Polytechnic College Bikram Chowk, in collaboration with the Institution of Electronics & Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) Jammu Sub-Centre, celebrated World Telecommunication & Information Society Day 2024 (WTISD-24) on May 17th, 2024. The event featured a seminar on the theme "Digital Innovation for Sustainable Development."
Er. Arun Bangotra, Principal of Government Polytechnic College Jammu, was the Chief Guest. In his address, he underscored the significance of World Telecommunication & Information Society Day and encouraged students to engage with IETE to advance their knowledge of the latest technologies. He highlighted the college's Centre for Innovation, Incubation, Invention, and Training (CIIIT) as a vital resource for students to develop their skills.
Maj. Gen. S.K. Sharma (AVSM), representing IETE, welcomed the dignitaries, participants, and students, urging them to absorb the key insights from the seminar and become active members of the institution. Dr. Vijay Sharma, Hon Secretary of IETE JSC, read a message from the IETE HQs in New Delhi.
The seminar featured several notable speakers:
Prof. Parveen Lehana, Department of Electronics, University of Jammu: Discussed the transformative impact of 5G technologies, likening them to a "sixth sense."
Prof. Pawanesh Abrol, Department of CS&IT, University of Jammu: Spoke on the significance of IETE, which boasts 1.30 lakh members globally.
Prof. Rakesh Vaid, Department of Electronics, University of Jammu: Highlighted the revolutionary impact of UPI transactions and nanotechnologies on digital communication in India.
Joy Ganjoo, Chairman, IETE JSC: Delivered a presentation on the day's theme, discussing India's journey towards becoming a digital leader and its progress towards achieving the UN's sustainable development goals by 2030-2040.
Dr. Radhika Khanna, Hon Treasurer of IETE, concluded the event with a vote of thanks. The seminar was attended by faculty members, research scholars, and students, including Ms. Tiny Sawhney from the University of Jammu. The proceedings were conducted by Ar. Manu Rajput, Urvashi, and Mahima, with the organizing committee consisting of Mohd Arshad Rajna, Rishab Sharma, Sajjad Hussain, Heena Gupta, and Chamel Singh.
Other notable attendees included Er. Inderjeet Singh (Workshop Superintendent), Rani Devi (HOD Computer), Raj Shekhar (HOD Automobile Engineering), and Devika Bhardwaj (Lecturer-I Electrical Engineering), along with other faculty members and students.
