GDC Vijaypur organizes educational study tour

VIJAYPUR, May 18: The Department of Geography and the Department of Environmental Science at Government Degree College (GDC) Vijaypur organized a study tour on May 17, 2024, as part of their curriculum. Under the guidance of Principal Dr. Vandana Verma, a group of 40 students from UG Semester II and IV participated in this educational excursion. The study tour aimed to provide students with practical learning experiences and a deeper understanding of Jammu and Kashmir's diverse geographical and ecological landscapes. The trip to Patnitop offered students an opportunity to explore the region's flora and fauna, learn about ecosystem dynamics, and understand the economic benefits of various natural resources.
Students engaged in hands-on activities such as performing a Chain and Tape Survey. They were introduced to various surveying instruments like the Chain, Measuring Tape, Trough Compass, and Ranging Rods, and they learned methods such as the Perpendicular Offset Method and Oblique Offset Method. This practical experience was designed to enhance their knowledge of geographical and environmental science principles.
The tour was coordinated by Prof. Poonam Kundan, Head of the Department of Environmental Science, and Prof. Meetu Sharma, Head of the Department of Geography. They were supported by Prof. Mazid Malik and Prof. Rakesh Kumar in co-coordinating the activities. Refreshments were provided to the students during the tour.
Overall, the study tour was a successful educational experience, offering students valuable insights into the region's ecosystem, resource management, and surveying techniques.
