| Prof Shastri’s demise widely mourned | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 9- Several social and political organization have widely mourned the death of Prof Ram Nath Shastri a renowned Dogri writer and winner of several awards. In an emergent meeting chaired by its president Thakur Th.Gulchain Singh Charak, the Dogra Sadar Sabhla expressed great shock and grief over the untimely demise of Prof Ram Nath Shastri, a renowned Dogri writer, social worker and a philanthropist. The members at the meeting observed two minute silence and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul and courage to the bereaved family. Among others the condolence meeting was attended by Prem Sagar Gupta, Prof NK Dogra, Maj Gen (Retd) G S Jamwal, Prof Anita Billowaria, S.Kulbir Singh, Nisar Massiah, Ajmer Singh, Ghanshyal Singh, B S Manhas and Vinod Pandita. Nationalist Congress Party President and former Minister Th.Randhi Singh has also expressed his profound grief over the demise of Shastri. Prof. Saifuddin Soz, Union Minister for Water Resources and President, Pradesh Congress Committee has expressed his deep condolences over the passing away of veteran Dogri writer, author and litterateur Prof. Ram Nath Shastri in Jammu late last night. Prof. Shastri, he said, was a father figure who had always inspired young writers and journalists. Recalling the services of Prof. Shastri for the revival and resurgence of Dogri language, Prof. Soz said that it was late writer’s inspiration which led to the tremendous growth and glory of Dogri language and enabled it to touch new frontiers of success. Prof. Shastri has left behind a treasure of literary works which would always remain a source of guidance and light for the future generations, Prof. Soz said. Jammu and Nationalist Congress President in a condolence message has described the late Prof Shastri a great humanist and said that with his passing away the state has lost a great personality. He said his contribution to Dogri literature will always be remembered. Singh at a condolence meeting held at the party headquarters has conveyed his heartfelt sympathy with the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul. The condolence meeting was among others attended by Gulab Chand Bhagat, Sham Singh, Sham Gorka, Mohinder Singh Thakur, Gulab Chand Bhagat, OP Gupta, Yogesh Kapoor, Amar Singh, Ashok Jain, Amrit Sagar, Karor Singh, Sudershan Choudhary, Prof Baldev Singh, Prof PD Shastri, Shivdev Singh Jasrotia, RS Bloeria and Maulana Mohammed Younis. Prof. Bhim Singh, Chairman National Panthers Party today expressed deep shock on the death of Prof. Ramnath Shastri. Prof. Singh in his condolence message said that he (Bhim Singh) was one of the most favourable students of Prof. Ramnath Shastri whom he (Bhim Singh) always took as a great philosopher guide and an inspiring teacher. He said that in his (Prof. Ramnath Shastri’s) death people of Jammu have lost a great source of inspiration and the vacuum caused in his death shall hardly be filled for decades in future. He said that it was Prof. Ramnath Shastri who has re-written the history of Dogra Art, Literature and identity through his hard work and power of his pen which the Dogras shall remain indebted forever. Prof Singh conveyed his heart-felt condolences and sympathies with the bereaved family. Natrang while condoling the death of Padamshree Prof. Ram Nath Shastri at a meeting here today termed her as the father of modern Dogri literature and his demise has created a vacuum in the world of Dogri language and literature. Balwant Thakur said that late Prof Shastri is credited for getting National recognition for Dogri. With Natrang, he had a long association of over twenty-five years and with his support Natrang created history by creating the mega theatre production ‘Bawa Jitto’. His plays ‘Bawa Jitto’ and ‘Mahabhoj’ were the only theatre productions which brought Dogri Theatre to the National limelight, he added. He said that he has been a guiding force for Natrang and inspired many to dedicate for the cause of Dogri.
